Final Recommendation of the national workshop titled: 1. The vision of the strategy: “A self-reliant software development nation contributing to OSS community by acquiring best practices in developing local application software” 2. The mission of the strategy: “To become a software developing nation that can actively share its contributions with others’ contributions and extending services to help those who are in need; by organizing ourselves and acquiring skills to use all development tools that allow us to professionally contribute in the development of Software.” 3. Have a strong commitment from leaders and advocators to promote and popularize OSS concepts and usage. 4. Form a specialized task research group to investigate OSS applications from a security perspective and avoid pitfalls from early stages. 5. Adopting final report of the “National Committee for FOSS development in Sudan“and its recommendations, this report can be found on the workshop’s website. The final report recommendations are:
6. Include FOSS courses in the curriculum of primary and secondary schools. 7. Persuade the private sector to take part in the adoption of the FOSS. 8. Create a database for experts in all areas: financial, administration, banking, governmental, and IT. This database will act as a panel of experts that can advise in the movement. 9. Establish relationships, partnerships with regional and international counterparts. 10. Enhance the spirit of sharing knowledge and resources in the community. 11. Provide support to the Sudan Free and Open Source Society, SudaFOSS. 12. Collect information of all FOSS-related activities and publish them on the portal. 13. Organize a FOSS workshop annually accompanied by an exhibition. 14. Develop governmental applications using FOSS, and starting with a big project such as e-government. 15. Support small companies in developing software using FOSS, and provide training to the public on FOSS. 16. Establish a center for provide support and maintenance services to the FOSS community.
